Tony Kelly's works are characterized by a smooth sense of luxury, vibrant colors, especially red, and a touch of surrealism. 'Ladies Day' combines all of those traits into a fun and memorable image. A woman's nude legs are depicted in white, red-bottom heels. She is leaning on a golf club. Next to her, golf balls are lying on the ground. On the right, one of the iconic birkin bags in red is filled with golf balls as well. The bright blue sky in the background contrasts with the red and lets the image glow.
Tony Kelly is one of the most influential fine art photographers of our time. He plays with humor and provocation, and although highly polished, his work is playfully subversive, which forces you to stop and think, inviting us to venture beneath the glossy veneer and confront stereotypes, taboos, and role reversals. Kelly was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1975. He cut his teeth as a photojournalist, capturing the burgeoning celebrity culture in a city embracing newfound wealth. His voracious appetite for blue skies and sun-drenched panoramas drew him to Barcelona, where he embraced the "street voyeur" within. His quirky spin on daily life and the cultural idiosyncrasies surrounding him quickly became his distinctive signature style.
