About the Item

Atlanta High Museum, 2019 by Ying Chen From the series "Lost In Transition". Archival pigment print Image size: 80 in. H x 60 in. W Edition of 5 + 1AP Unframed The artwork employs collage to fuse the ornate features of traditional architecture with stark modernist geometry. This duality within the piece highlights the city's journey through time, symbolizing the transformation from its historic roots to its contemporary identity. The interplay of shapes and the layering of eras challenge the viewer to consider the narrative of change and continuity in the city's evolution, emphasizing that in the midst of progress, fragments of the past persist, creating a rich tapestry of history and modernity. _____________ Ying Chen was born in Tokyo, Japan, to Chinese parents living in Japan. She grew up and spent her early childhood in Japan until the age of seven, then spent her youth in China. Now Chen has graduated from SCAD with her bachelor's degree and is currently enrolled in the SCAD graduate photo department. Since 2018, her focus has been on photo collages. Using a collection of photos she selected for a theme, Chen aims to convey her state of mind in a deconstructed yet the whole picture.

Sublime 230 - Original Urban Landscape Photographic Collage Artwork
By Tae Ho Kang
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is an euphoria that affects the deep recesses of one’s consciousness. As is this experience of the sublime, his work is largely abstract. This large colorful vertical artwork...

Land & Sea VII (B)
By Colleen Fitzgerald
Located in Sante Fe, NM
Edition of 5 Colleen Fitzgerald's series, "Stamina," provides new approaches to conventional subjects by utilizing the materials and tools of photography in non-traditional ways. A unique physical process combines aspects of sculpture and photography, subverting the idealized two-dimensional photograph and providing a new entry point to the enduring photographic subjects of natural landscapes, seascapes, and more. To create the photographs, unexposed large sheets of positive film are cut and bent into three dimensional shapes before being exposed inside a camera outfitted with a custom film holder that accepts the film as a three-dimensional object instead of as a standard, flat sheet. The results on the shaped film can...
