Howard Schatz
ANTHOLOGY, Dance #5203 - Nude Dancers - Fine Art Photography

2018

About the Item

ANTHOLOGY, Dance #5203, a group of dancers intertwined, photographed by Howard Schatz in 2018. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. Howard Schatz describes the process of his Dance Study as follows: "Dance photographs are classically made in a frozen moment of about 1/2000 second, the duration of the flash exposure. Though this kind of photograph can be wonderful, I am working to demonstrate and express dance as movement in a single frame. How to artistically reveal a dancer’s movement from one gesture to another….." Opulent petals, intertwined bodies, and decadent gala dinners in shimmering underwater worlds - Howard Schatz's visual language is characterized by abundance. Regardless of which genre the star photographer immerses himself in, he approaches portraiture, nature photography, or the body in motion with passion and energy. Flowing colors, extraordinary angles, and daring details surprise at every turn. Exotic vegetation and floating fabrics in deep blue culminate in enchanting unique compositions. PREISS FINE ARTS celebrates 15 years of successful collaborations with only the most esteemed photographers and collectors. EMMA SUMMERTON (*1970, Australia) Amanda in Red & Pink, 2016 Archival pigment print on Hahnemühle paper Sheet 160 x 120 cm (63 x 47 1/4 in.) Edition of 3, plus 2 AP; Ed. no. 1/3 print only Emma Summerton (*1970 Australia) graduated from the National Art School in Sydney, where she studied fine arts majoring in Photography. Summerton moved to London in 1998, where she worked as an assistant to artist Fiona Banner while starting her career as a photographer. Her breakthrough as a professional photographer came with the collaboration with Terry de Havilland in 2004/2005, from which her first solo exhibition, titled Landed at the Christophe Guye Galerie shows from August 29 to November 23 2019 a large selection of the most important works. Since then Summerton has established herself as one of the most talented photographers to emerge in the mid 2000's. Her in-depth technical knowledge coupled with her eye for detail and love for fashion have made her images not only unique but very distinctive, setting her apart from other photographers working in the industry today. Summerton's work revolves around the themes of fashion, love, desire and intimacy. Her Polaroid works are part of a project Summerton started in 1999 as a series of Self Portraits, firstly as visual love letters to her then partner and also in an attempt to re-find her voice with photography. ‘My mother was a dressmaker, and in school, she would make me dresses to wear to dances based on drawings I made,’ she says. Back then, costumes were an access point to unleash Summerton’s imagination. In her ‘Polaroid experiments’, as she calls them, costumes again became a vehicle for her to express her inner life. Summerton’s Editorial Clients include: Italian, British, American, German, Australian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese Vogue’s, i-D, Self Service, Dazed & Confused, The Last magazine,10 and Big Magazine. Todo Por La Revolucion
By Steve Schlackman
Located in New York, NY
This digital print is part of a limited edition set. Steve Schlackman is a lawyer by profession and a photographer by choice. Fascinated by the magical world of photography since his youth, he honed this skill over time, meticulously pouring over all things photographic, technical and creative alike, with unstoppable enthusiasm. Steve’s passion for taking photographs was ignited early on, during a study-abroad trip to Paris, where he immersed himself in all things art historical. Diligence, a strong trait Schlackman is known for, paid off, and after daily meanderings at the Louvre, a great love for art emerged along with hundreds of photographs. These pictures proved to be early tributes to the urban landscape, and although they didn’t amount to full-on series, a seed was planted. The omnipresent tension between the poor neighborhoods of the Cuban capital, as a result of political dictatorship, and the rich Afro-Cuban cultural roots of their inhabitants, whose wealth is represented by their music and feelings, is physically visible in Steve’s use of high contrast, a metaphoric touch on the subject of the light and darkness of the Afro-Cuban heritage. Although intentionally apolitical, the pictures speak volumes about the Cuban status quo and, appropriately, the eternal joy of living despite socio-political hardship. Play, in and of itself a mode to survive the harsh reality, represents another subject Steve is keen on capturing. Whether it is adults playing dominoes...
