Philip H J Gay est né à Gloucester, au Royaume-Uni, mais a grandi entre l'Angleterre et Paris. Son intérêt pour la photographie a commencé alors qu'il étudiait le cinéma et la littérature anglaise à l'université de Londres. Au cours de sa carrière en tant que photographe de portrait et de mode, Philip a réalisé des éditoriaux et des couvertures pour certains des magazines les plus prestigieux du monde, tels que Zoo, i-D, Purple, Arena Homme +, V Magazine, Mixt(E), Muse, Numéro Berlin, Numéro Tokyo, Elle, GQ, Vogue Hommes International, Interview, ainsi que de nombreuses éditions de Vogue, dont la France, l'Allemagne, les États-Unis, la Russie, l'Espagne et l'Ukraine.
