This Portrait by Rankin is a celebration of experimental makeup. A Model is depicted, her skin and hair is painted black, fading into the black background. Her face is covered in tiny colorful beads which create a mask. The Mask looks like a skull adorned with colorful flowers.
The Beads shine bright in front of the dark background creating an optical illusion with the models body barely visible.
Raw, unfiltered, and with an edge – pinpointing Rankin’s elusive yet iconic visual language is almost impossible. The star photographer has captured the Who’s Who throughout his skyrocketing career and created some of the most well-known shots of timeless figures, such as Kate Moss, Björn or David Bowie. Rankin’s work is marked by a coarse intimacy that strips superstars of their allures and stardom and foregrounds them as people.
