About the artist: Xan Padrón (Galicia, Spain 1969) is a Galician photographer, musician, and composer. The son of an old-school journalist, Xan Padrón grew up used to being the silent observer who sees things quietly and finds stories everywhere. He received his first camera at the age of 13 from his Godfather, who was a photo-journalist.
In 1983 he first established his darkroom. As a former professional touring musician, traveling the world with his bass and his camera, he was able to pursue his career as a photographer focused on the people around him. Xan Padrón’s fascination with time and movement, coupled with an uncanny ability to disappear behind the lens, unnoticed by his subjects, brought him to the realization of how much life happens even at the most seemingly insignificant location of a city.
His work has been exhibited in Spain, Canada, Israel, and the US and has been published worldwide in books, newspapers, magazines, concert programs, posters, and album covers. Xan Padrón's work is part of collections all over the world in countries such as the US, Canada, China, Netherlands, France, Australia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan, Kenya, Spain, Denmark, etc. Xan Padrón is a resident of New York City where he lives and works with his wife: musician, composer, writer and educator Cristina Pato.

Time Lapse: 1 place, 1 moment. In 2011, photographer and musician Xan Padrón started Time Lapse. His fascination with time and movement, coupled with an uncanny ability to disappear behind the lens, unnoticed by his subjects, brought him to the realization of how much life happens even at the most seemingly insignificant location of a city. A willful arrest of movement, where action becomes observation, brought into focus a whole new vision of each unique ecosystem. From such chosen still points of time and space, life emanates. In Time Lapse Xan Padrón sits on a single spot, unnoticed, for 2 hours, photographing a sequence of people passing by against one unique background..

Title: Bagged for Sale
Date: 2019
Medium: Inkjet print
Dimensions: 11 x 14 in.
Photographer Rachel Lauren invites viewers to become more aware of the way natural beauty has been contorted, packed and sold as a cold, manufactured, cloned and empty product. Are women inherently beautiful, or do they require modifications? Are you seeing your uniquely created reflection through a distorted lens? By imposing a juxtaposition between real and fake through abstract portraiture, Lauren calls attention to these complex ideals in "Distorted Beauty".
Lauren is currently an MFA candidate at UMKC and based in Colorado. Since the age of two, she has fostered a love for photography and traveling which have both shaped her understanding of the issues she addresses in her work.
