About the Item

'Untitled (Natural Wonder Series)' by Gregory Crewdson, 1995. C-print, Ed. 6, 30 x 40 in. Best known for staging complex, cinematic scenes to dramatic effect, the featured color C-print from the ‘Natural Wonder' series has a mysterious quality, focusing on wildlife forced to the edges of suburbia. The Surrealist constructed scene showcases a newly built cape cod style home encroaching upon a forest. Hanging from the trees are groups of beetles (pictured in the foreground). In a black frame. Gregory Crewdson is an American photographer who's career has spanned three decades. He was born in Park Slope, a neighborhood in Brooklyn. In the mid 1980s, he studied photography at SUNY Purchase and received his Master of Fine Arts from Yale University. He has taught at Sarah Lawrence, Cooper Union, Vassar College, and Yale University where he has been on the faculty since 1993. Crewdson’s work has been exhibited widely in the United States and Europe and is featured in many public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC.
