About the Item

Old New York is captured. Angelic golden light caresses an industrial scene truck at a Chelsea West Side loading dock in 1972. The lighting transforms a gritty and oil-soiled space into something out of an impressionist painting. The image was taken 52 years ago but looks contemporary. For over 55 years, Mitchell Funk has been a champion of extreme lighting and design in color photography. This archival color photograph by fine art photographer Mitchell Funk is signed, dated and numbered 3/15, lower right recto. Other sizes are available and the fine art photograph is unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper - The video is showing light - refer to the still images for more accurate color. Can a street photograph be a grab shot and precisely designed at the same time? Mitchell Funk says yes. He brings finely honed photography skills such as composition, intense lighting, and design to found subject matter. The subjects for his striking and captivating visuals are typically set in the most ordinary environments, drawing the viewer into a charged but serene experience based on composition, palette and formal lines. Saturated in color, the nominal subjects gather a haunting and mesmerizing quality, creating a poignant pretext for the making of a formal color photograph. Decisively capturing the traces left by humanity, Pawassar's images are filled with a sense of universal nostalgia and pay homage to the passage of time and the extinguished moment, referencing documentary and street photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebastian Salgado...
