About the Item

Illuminated in rim lighting, a lone man sits crouched in front of an early example of street art. A giant abstract painting raises seven stories and faces Houston Street in Lower Manhattan. Street photographer Mitchell Funk conveys a dual message in this work. On the one hand, this is a study of the loneliness and isolation of life on the lower east side Bowery area in 1971. On the other, it's a statement about the early use of color photography. Funk's work has always explored the color aspect of color photography. Here we see late light illuminating and a wall of color. Signature: Signed, Dated, Numbers 3/15 lower right recto, other sizes available, unframed, printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Brooklyn Museum, show "Images en Couleur" . 1971 Included he was included in the visionary book "Frontiers of Photography" Time Life. Color ! American Photography Transformed. Amon Carter Museum.
