About the Item
Illuminated in rim lighting, a lone man sits crouched in front of an early example of street art. A giant abstract painting raises seven stories and faces Houston Street in Lower Manhattan. Street photographer Mitchell Funk conveys a dual message in this work. On the one hand, this is a study of the loneliness and isolation of life on the lower east side Bowery area in 1971. On the other, it's a statement about the early use of color photography. Funk's work has always explored the color aspect of color photography. Here we see late light illuminating and a wall of color.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Brooklyn Museum, show "Images en Couleur" . 1971 Included he was included in the visionary book "Frontiers of Photography" Time Life. Color ! American Photography Transformed. Amon Carter Museum. He has had more than 50 Photography Magazine Covers and has had covers on Newsweek and Life Magazine among others.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
