Nicky comments "My work is essentially optimistic, whether I'm painting flowers or the sea, the emotions I aim to evoke are hope and happiness. The trees, big skies and hardy heathland flowers of the countryside around my home, and the sense of time and belonging that watching them through the seasons brings, are a huge inspiration. I try to capture a sense of air and movement as I paint. I originally trained as a designer (BA hons Fashion, Central St Martins 1993) and the influence of my love of textiles can be seen in my use of colour, texture and pattern. I am currently exploring the different effects, happy accidents and controlled corrosion of mixed media in the backgrounds of my tree paintings to create wilder skies. Drawing the human figure, trying to capture moments in time and changing light is an interest that has always run parallel to my other work. All my figure paintings are in mixed media, either quick, gestural drawings or multi-layered combinations of ink, paint, collage and resin".

Gina Parr, Sol, Contemporary Art, Limited Edition Photographic Print, Art Online
By Gina Parr
Located in Deddington, GB
When she is traveling and away from her painting studio, Parr uses a camera as her way of ‘painting’ whilst on the move, Often mistaken as reproductions of her paintings, her photographs are in fact Original Limited Edition pieces.
Habana Series Cuba 2016 was produced, whilst the Artist scoured each street of Old Havana, Cuba in January 2016. Photographed because of their inherent illusion of horizon and form, these chance marks, stains, colours and textures on walls and other surfaces, some of which have partly been laid down by others by accident or with previous intent, become chimerical worlds and fictional places. The photographs, which Parr has named after where they were taken, further confirm things not being as they seem, a pictured utopia found in the still squalid but reforming streets of Havana, Cuba.
