About the Item
'Rainy Day on the Chattahoochee' is a black and white landscape photograph taken near the Chattahoochee River. Additional sizes are available. This listing is for an unframed print, edition 1/10.
Richard Skoonberg is inspired by the work of Eliot Porter, Lee Friedlander and Thomas Struth.
Richard Skoonberg’s photographs offer a complexity that is chaotic and cohesive, intriguing and meditative. He works in the traditions of landscape, street photography and photo collage. Richard studied photography at the California College of the Arts under the Czech surrealist photographer, Vilem Kriz. His photographs have been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA), the Atlanta Photography Group Gallery and in the main Mezzanine of the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
His latest body of work focuses on the Chattahoochee River which nearly spans the full height of the state of Georgia. His photographs of the Chattahoochee are images of nature that are often overlooked—tangled, disorderly and wild. These images can be intimidating, emotional and a challenge, but at a closer look, reveal a serene depth and quietness.
“Much is missed if we have eyes only for the bright colors. Nature should be viewed without distinction… She makes no choice herself; everything that happens has equal significance. Nothing can be dispensed with. This is a common mistake that many people make — they think that half of nature can be destroyed — the uncomfortable half — while still retaining the acceptable and the pleasing side.” – Eliot Porter
