About the Item
We are all born from Mother Earth. Mimicking a plant or tree, a muscular man standing on his head emerges upward from the desert ground with is legs spread out like branches. Seen from the back, the man's identity is purposely concealed so that he is more of an archetype than an individual. The nude man is the only evidence of humanity in this vast primal landscape. Shot outside of Taos, New Mexico, the image was photographed in infra-red to merge the unexpectedness of a nude upside-down man with an unexpected pictorial look. The resulting surreal image was taken 50 years ago and retains its artistic power and originality.
Signed and dated on the lower right recto , numbered 2/15 other size available, unframed, Printed later, Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper.
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Brooklyn Museum, show "Images en Couleur" . 1971 Included he was included in the visionary book "Frontiers of Photography" Time-Life. Color ! American Photography Transformed. Amon Carter Museum. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
