Nude black-and-white portrait of a young male model with an earring, photographed by Rankin ca. 2000. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. This piece belongs to the series 'Breeding', a series of Rankin's finest black-and-white portraits, which the photographer published as a book in 2000. It's one of his private projects, where he shows his subtlety and depth. Here, the images are contemplative and questioning. The inherent androgyny of many of the models is exaggerated, used to pass a simple comment on human sexuality and how it is represented. This piece depicts a young male model. He is looking straight at the camera. The only thing he is wearing is a single earring. His androgynous face is carrying a stern expression. The soft black and grey shades underline the shapes of his body. Raw, unfiltered, and with an edge – pinpointing Rankin’s elusive yet iconic visual language is almost impossible. The star photographer has captured the Who’s Who throughout his skyrocketing career and created some of the most well-known shots of timeless figures, such as Kate Moss, Björn or David Bowie. Rankin’s work is marked by a coarse intimacy that strips superstars of their allures and stardom and foregrounds them as people. Co-founder and creator of the lifestyle and art magazine Dazed & Confused and collaborator of some of the most high-priced artists of our time, such as Damien Hirst, Rankin is an absolute pillar of the British art scene.
