About the Item
By American photographer Burt Glinn a black-and-white 14" x 11" photograph on fiber paper (gelatin silver print) of Editor-in-chief Hugh Hefner who wrote for the magazine he founded, Playboy. An historical photo of Hefner smoking a pipe at his desk surrounded by file folders whose subjects were of great interest to Hefner and the times - 1960s America - the photograph is titled on verso (back of photo) "Hefner Philosophy."
Provenance: Glinn Estate.
Signed by the estate on back of photo with the photographer's blind stamp on recto in left margin.

Artist's Bio:
Born 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, photographer Burt Glinn worked for LIFE magazine before joining Magnum photo agency. He photographed personalities throughout the 1950s and 60s, continuing to work commercially and editorially for more than five decades in the US and abroad on assignment, until his death in 2008.
The artist photographed revolutionary leader Fidel Castro entrance into Havana, Cuba, celebrity and art luminaries such as Andy Warhol and Helen Frankenthaler. Subject matter included the social scene of the rich, the dirtiness of politics, and the humorous. Glinn received numerous awards for his editorial and commercial photography.
