Playing with the interaction between positive and negative space, and strong colors on neutral backgrounds, Canadian artist Virginie Schroeder creates pop art portraits and iconic pop culture imagery that defy traditional pictorial representation. She works from the ground up, adding several layers of thick acrylic paint on canvas until she is able to carve out colorful, undulating portraits filled with emotion as well as recognizable dynamic objects filled with movement.
