About the Item
The Young Callas is a beautiful black-white photographic portrait of the nascent opera star realized by an unknown artist around the 1950-51.
On the verso the black ink stamp on the lower margin "Foto _Semo (...) Mexico".
In excellent condition with some minimal defects (light folds) on the margins. These defects do not affect the photography.
This is a rare photo of the very young singer Maria Callas portrayed in Mexico with a typical Fridha Kalho hairstyle.
Maria Callas (New York, 1923 - Paris, 1977)
The American soprano of Greek origin, naturalized Italian and later Greek, was equipped with a particular voice, with a unique tone of considerable volume, great extension and agility.
Maria Callas contributed to the rediscovery of the Italian repertoire of the first half of the nineteenth century, called "belcanto renaissance", or Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti, of which she was able to give a personal reading in a dramatic key (her interpretations of Norma and Lucia were fundamental in this regard of Lammermoor).
Her artistic success joined with her frequent media presence, two elements that helped to build a real myth around her, creating "the Divine".
