About the Item

Contact sheet of The Jam's photo shoot for the cover of their debut album 'In The City' Martyn Goddard recalls, "I had a phone call from Bill Smith, one of the art directors at Polydor Records, in 1977. He had to produce an LP cover for a new band, which he was excited about but as usual it was an urgent assignment as the record company wanted to release the album in May. The New Wave band was named The Jam, a three-piece outfit comprising of Bruce Foxton, Rick Buckler and Paul Weller, who to quote Bill 'is a bloke with definite ideas about the group's image. At this point I hadn't met any member of the band or seen a photograph." Available in the following sizes 12x16" Edition of 50 16x20" Edition of 40 20x24" Edition of 25 30x40" Edition of 10

The Jam - Paul Weller - signed, limited edition by Martyn Goddard Signed limited edition of 25 only this size One of three rolls of film used to produce the 'In the City' album cover for the Jam shot in my studio in London March 1977. After a period assisting acclaimed photographer Gered Mankowitz, Martyn Goddard became a regular face on the New Wave music scene of the seventies and early eighties. This was an era of LP picture discs with serious budgets requiring creative photography. Photographing acts such as Blondie, The Jam, The Cure, Sham 69, Ian Dury...
