Street Photographer Mitchell Funk captures a green-eyed Sci-Fi Star Trek girl illuminated by intense golden light.
In most portrait photography, the subject collaborates with the photographer. In this work, it appears the subject is posing, but it is just a moment caught in time. Funk's hyper-lighting works hand-in-hand with the subject outer worldly presence. There is a synthesis of technique and subject matter. The background of Times Square neon signs is thrown out of focus, making the colorful background look almost as extraterrestrial as the female Vulcan in the foreground.

Mitchell Funk incorporates the compositional precision of studio photography into street photography. Yet unlike most street photographers, Funk is an abstractionist while being a documentarian. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
