About the Item
This contemporary abstract expressionist woman's portrait was created by French artist Natalya Mougenot and is part of her ongoing series dedicated to Women.
This series holds deep personal meaning for the artist. As a woman who has undergone her own journey of transformation—both emotional and spiritual—Natalya now channels her evolution into portraits that celebrate the many facets of femininity. Her work captures the raw essence of womanhood: determination, courage, beauty, despair, joy, and happiness—all coexisting on the same emotional canvas.
The painting, titled “Through Her Eyes,” draws us immediately into the solemn, penetrating gaze of its subject. Natalya explains, “I wanted to show her intense dark eyes with a solemn expression, as if she is holding a lifetime of stories, emotions, and memories within them.” The viewer is invited to look deeper—beyond the surface—to sense what she has lived, what she has endured, and what she still holds within.
To heighten this emotional intensity, Natalya employs vivid, almost electric colors and expressive, sweeping brushstrokes. “I used a turquoise background to create a stark contrast with her dynamic, multicolored features,” she says. “Colors like yellow, pink, white, and red were chosen intentionally. They are my instruments—tools to give depth to the emotion in her eyes.”
Natalya’s style is unmistakably her own: a visceral blend of abstract art, expressionism, brut art, naïve art, and Fauvist influences. Her portraits break away from traditional forms, embracing instead a raw, unfiltered approach. “In all my pieces, I remain true to my values,” she shares. “Raw emotional honesty is at the core of my artistic practice. I paint in an unconditional, unconventional way—pouring all my energy and soul into each piece. Each portrait tells its own story.”
This is why painting women is so vital to her. For Natalya, these are not just portraits—they are emotional testimonies, archetypes of womanhood. “This is not just a portrait of this particular woman,” she says, “but a universal portrait of all women.” Through her brush, she pays tribute to the resilience, mystery, complexity, and beauty of women everywhere.

Natalya Mougenot id a french artist living in France for more than 20 years. She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes. She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country. She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now. In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult. As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult. Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference. She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details. Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach. Natalya manipulates different mediums without a preconceived plan since she is guided by what she wants to express at the moment by embracing the quality of my materials. She does not deny that her artworks reflect her intuitive approach and her love for vibrant colors which represent her who she is. Natalya says she is never able to create the same piece more than once. Sometimes she paints from photos or images. Sometimes she paints from memory. She tells to herself : "Just be yourself when you create ".

Antonio Segui Biography
Born in Córdoba, Argentina in 1934, Antonio Seguí currently lives and works in Paris. He studied at the San Fernando Academy in Madrid, Spain as well as the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. His first solo exhibition was in Argentina at age 23.
Antonio Seguí is one of the most internationally renowned Argentinian artists. He began his artistic endeavors at a young age after leaving Argentina to travel the world and study art. His journeys through Latin America, Europe and Africa exposed him to new ideas and encouraged his culturally diverse approach to art.
Influenced by artists like Fernand Leger and Diego Rivera, Seguí’s work is generally satirical, critiquing society and human nature. In a pre-computer age, the artist created a vocabulary that is now being explored by a new generation of artists through comics and Manga, yet his visual language and social commentaries remain poignant, both symbolically and literally.
Throughout his career, Seguí has developed a fascination for urban life, creating in his work the idea of the “everyman.” The city movement, the fast pace at which life happens and the people who live in these urban spaces are some of the elements that constitute the world depicted in his paintings. It is a prototypical realm inhabited by speedy automatons that take immutable routes leading nowhere. Up close, each figure is an individual, walking down dark alleys, pointing, waving and emerging from potholes. But from a distance, the individuals morph into complex patterns swallowed up in a labyrinth of buildings and cookie-cutter trees.
Utilizing cubist techniques, Seguí’s repeated elements give shape to the cities causing planes to vibrate between line and color. Numerous perspectives unfold with each vibration and reflect the many angles of life of the urban man. Always in action, the little figures trample, tip-toe, dodge and advance through Seguí’s imaginary metropolis of life.
His work is representated on a series of narratives and criticisms reflected on paintings that show many little men, dressed in 20's style clothes. He uses his own recourse based on comic strip characters, texts, arrows and various signs, juxtaposed onto the figures that resemble comic strip style language.
Seguí’s work is collected and exhibited worldwide in places such as the MoMA, New York; Art Museum of the Americas, Washington, D.C.; Frissiras Museum, Athens, Greece; Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Argentina; Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Austria; Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik, Croatia; and Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico. The Musée National d´Art Moderne, Paris organized a retrospective of his works on paper in 2005. A monograph on the artist by Daniel Abadie was published in 2010 by Hazan.
