Elvis Aaron Presley, also known simply as Elvis, was an American singer, musician and actor. He is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century and is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King".
About Phillip Harrington
Phillip A. Harrington (1920–2009) was an American photographer
renowned for his candid portraits of cultural icons and his pioneering work in photomicrography. Born in Holland, Michigan, Harrington developed an early interest in photography, joining his high school camera club at 16. At 19, he moved to New York City to study at the prestigious Clarence H. White School of Photography, where he was mentored by Clarence White Jr. and became one of the school's standout students .
During World War II, Harrington served in the Merchant Marine as a ship's photographer.
After the war, he worked for several newspapers, including the Akron Beacon-Journal, the Chicago Tribune, and the Miami Herald. In 1945, he became Director of Photography for the Wisconsin State Journal, and in 1946, he moved to the Minneapolis Tribune, where he developed a daily "picture story" feature. By 1949, Harrington transitioned to Look Magazine, where he worked as a staff photographer and also freelanced for National Geographic.
Harrington's photography captured a diverse range of subjects, including politicians, artists, and entertainers.
In 1956, he accompanied Elvis Presley on tour, photographing the singer during performances in Detroit, Columbus, and Dayton, as well as at his home in Memphis. These intimate portraits, published in Look Magazine, offer a rare glimpse into Presley's personal life . That same year, Harrington traveled to Moscow and, in defiance of U.S. State Department restrictions, crossed into China with reporter Edmund Stevens. Their work earned them the George Polk Award for journalism .
In 1966, Harrington photographed British actress Charlotte Rampling at a London casino, capturing her in a moment of leisure. This image, along with others from his extensive portfolio, reflects his ability to document the personalities of his subjects with sensitivity and insight .
Later in his career, Harrington focused on photomicrography, collaborating with fellow photographer Roman Vishniac to explore the microscopic world. He continued to photograph jazz musicians in New York City during the 1980s and '90s. Harrington passed away in 2009 at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of compelling images that continue to be celebrated today .

Robert Farber’s style has influenced generations of photographers. His painterly, impressionistic style captures the essence of composition in every genre, including nudes, still life, landscapes and architecture. His ten photo art books have sold over half a million copies.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis brought Farber into Doubleday for the publication of his book “By The Sea,” which won the Art Director’s Award for color photography. Aside from numerous creative awards, Robert Farber also received the Photographer of the Year from PMA (Photographic Manufacturers Association), ASP International Award from the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and The American Society of Photographers. This award was given to those who’ve made a significant contribution to the science and art of photography. Some previous recipients of this award include Dr. Edwin Land (inventor of the Polaroid), George Hurrell, and National Geographic.
Farber’s work with nudes in fine art as well as in the commercial realm is known and respected. He has lectured for Ogilvy & Mather on the “Nude in Advertising.” ASMP requested to use Farber’s nudes as an examples of the artistic application in support of the National Endowment of Arts, after its backing of the controversial Mapplethorpe/Serrano exhibit. His book, “Farber Nudes,” was also included the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis estate...
