About the Item

Richard Heeps became well-known for his Burlesque Photography after he spent 2003 capturing performances in Britain & America. He spent a lot on time with his subjects on a number of occasions which meant he got more intimate shots. He began this prior to the cultural phenomenon of Burlesque, on the brink of the new movement which was a form of interpretation and innovation. His connection to it was sparked from his Rockabilly links built over the seven years he spent working towards his book, 'Man's Ruin' which was published in 2007. This artwork is a limited edition of 25, gloss photographic print. Accompanied by a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. We can provide framing on request (black or white box (shadow) frame) which including delivery is an additional £375/ $500 . This artwork can be purchased in bespoke sizes, just get in touch. Be sure to look at his other artworks listed on 1stDibs as they are great paired for interior design projects. Richard Heeps’ seductive, highly saturated colours and sophisticated pictorial structures demonstrate a true love and empathy for his subject matter – be it cool, descriptive interiors, still life, portrait or landscape. His distinctive style pushes the limits of lens-based photography without the need for digital manipulation. He runs his own darkrooms in Cambridge (UK) where he hand prints his colour photography. His work has been exhibited in Museums and Public Galleries around England, and he has participated in Art Fairs around the world, and his work is now part of many international collections.

Archival pigment print Signed in pencil, verso 22 x 17 inches, sheet 15 x 15 inches, image This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. The series, "Show," is photographer Henry Horenstein’s long-anticipated look at modern burlesque. The photographs were made from 2001 to 2009, and serve as an homage to the neo-burlesque resurgence of the last several years. The noir-styled images in "Show" are variously amusing, sexy, and harsh — true reflections of the world they document. The book covers a myriad of burlesque-style performance, including drag, fetish, and sideshow. Horenstein says, “These performers are today’s version of the ‘starving artist’ — living on the margins and delivering their personal expression through song, dance, comedy, and narrative — charged sexually and often highly political.” "Show" includes portraits of many of burlesque’s most recognizable performers, including Dita Von Teese and Catherine D...
