Christos J. Palios
Christos J. Palios - ASE 500oz, Photography 2018, Printed After

About the Item

This photograph belongs to the series, "Absolute Powers / ex nihilo." These photographs dive deeper into the taboo and controversial topic of money by showcasing an array of intriguing real-world historic and contemporary objects (some worthless, others immensely valuable), while examining how societies perceive, express, and destroy value. The most popular form of pure silver investment is the American Eagle coin. The most sought-after order size is what’s called a monster box, a case of 500 1-ounce coins separated into 25 tubes of 20 coins each, sealed by the US Mint and weighing 40lbs. Christos is a 1st-gen Greek-American fine-artist whose photographs probe themes of socioeconomics, culture, history, and architecture. As strong symbolic sparks in a frenetic 21st-century tangle, his creative intrigue is informed by identity, connection, nostalgia, and isolation. Red Maple and Peony Seed Pods in a Historic Brass Cup
By T.M. Glass
Located in Montreal, Quebec
Based in Toronto, Canada, T.M. Glass is a digital artist whose practice explores the historical, technological, and aesthetic conditions of photography to stretch it beyond its traditional definition. After studying sculpture at the Ontario College of Art and Design and turning to photography as the primary mode of production, Glass discovered rapidly advancing digital technology that made it possible to render a high degree of depth and level of detail as a celebration of nature. While Glass’s painterly photographs and the 3D-printer sculptures have the appearance of an easy kind of naturalness, they are the result of detailed planning and hours of painstaking manipulation. A single work may demand months of production time. Stemming from a deep, personal engagement in horticulture, the primary subject matter became the persistent allure of flowers. Glass pairs flora from renowned gardens including England’s Royal Lodge, India’s Rambagh Palace, and Quebec’s Jardin de Metis with historic vessels...
