About the Item
This contemporary abstract outdoor sculpture is forged from steel.
The dynamic, eclectic sculptural work of Quebec artist Claude Millette is highly regarded for its innovation in both its design and its production.
Millette is avant-garde—a uniquely talented sculptor who often uses nature, music, and dance as inspiration for his remarkable artwork. His extensive oeuvre favours metal as a medium and is mostly non-figurative in form. His sculptures share a common trait–a fluidity of motion that often suggests the graceful movement of a dancer. As such, the gestural expression of each piece is imbued with emotion. In this outdoor sculpture, a large, elegantly curved beam forged from corten steel arcs towards the sky. It appears to support three smaller curved beams attached to either side of the central beam—one in corten steel and two in highly polished stainless steel. ‘Convergence’ means ‘the coming together or unification’ of two or more points.
“In all civilizations, a sculptural legacy, sometimes abundant, bears witness to the genius of a species that hammers away on materials, for remembrance, for pure expression, weaving connections between nature and culture by which man elevates himself in the pursuit of ideals.” Claude Millette
Claude Millette was born in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. He studied at the École de sculpture de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and apprenticed with revered sculptors Robert Poulin and Jordi Bonet. Millette's works have been commissioned for more than 40 public art projects. He was one of 14 artists recently invited to create work in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the historic Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours in Montreal, Quebec. His artwork has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the U.S., Europe and Mexico.
