About the Item

This contemporary, still-life, blown glass, sculpture of a leaf was hand-crafted by artist Eileen Gordon. Australian glass artist Eileen Gordon’s leaf in jewel tones of red and forest green captures the lovely organic shape of a fallen leaf. As if lit from within, the detailed etchings of the leaf’s veins enhance the colour variations in the glass. This is one of a series of small tabletop sculptures. "My passion for color and form as a fused glass artist is greatly inspired by the environment of the Mornington Peninsula – the surrounding ocean, its sunrises and fabulous sunsets.” Eileen Gordon Born in Norway to Scottish parents who were both skilled glass engravers, Eileen completed her training in England. The family then emigrated to Australia in 1980. After years of honing her skills in glass studios around Australia and overseas, she founded the Gordon Glassblowers Studio with her partner Grant Donaldson in 1990. The couple’s two sons grew up in the studio and now glass artists span three generations of the family. Gordon has become one of Australia’s foremost glassblowers.
