About the Item
Created specifically for the exhibition Timeless Remnants in Knokke, "Milkmaid" is part of Laura Pasquino’s new totemic ceramic series. This standing sculpture, composed of stacked, rounded volumes, evokes the presence of a silent, grounded figure — humble yet monumental.
Handbuilt in natural stoneware and finished with a soft, off-white glaze, the piece balances fullness and void, strength and softness. Each form appears to lean gently into the next, creating a rhythm of subtle tension and connection. The surface retains traces of touch and fire, honoring the raw beauty of the material and the slow process of construction.
Rooted in ancient traditions yet free from narrative or utility, "Farmer's Wife" embodies Laura’s intuitive approach to sculpture — where volumes feel both protective and porous, grounded and ethereal. The work carries a quiet energy, like a guardian figure, present without imposing.

Laura Pasquino (b. 1987, Estonia) is a ceramic artist based in Amsterdam. Before establishing her studio in 2019, she honed her craft in Kyoto and Lisbon, shaping a practice rooted in nature’s textures and forms. Her work is distinguished by its minimalist aesthetic, embracing imperfection as a defining element. Often leaving her pieces unglazed, she highlights the raw tactility of clay, creating vessels and sculptures that reflect a balance between simplicity and depth. Guided by both traditional techniques and contemporary exploration, her process allows material and intuition to dictate the final form. Pasquino also collaborates on commissioned works for architectural and interior design projects, bringing an organic sensibility to crafted spaces.

"Spore", Contemporary, Gestural, Ceramic, White, Stoneware, Sculpture, 2009
By Sara Fine-Wilson
Located in Franklin, MA
Sara Fine-Wilson's “Spore" is a gestural 17.5 x 9 x 7 inch ceramic sculpture in white and gray. It is hand built and wheel constructed in white stoneware. Individual hand formed details are layered over the entire surface creating a graceful and fluid form. The surface is coated in a cool white matte glaze that becomes darker gray and glossy along the points that have been caught during the soda firing process. Some of the points in this piece have been blunted and crusted over during the firing process. The glaze emphasizes the contrast between surfaces and edges. Fine Wilson’s ceramic work contains elements of both raw and refined surfaces including cracks, ruptures and pooling of glaze.
