About the Item
This modern, minimal, contemporary, ceramic, wall sculpture is by Marie-Ève Fréchette. The Quebec sculptor is known for her bold choices of form and colour which are often inspired by both nature and her early career in science. Two pipe-like forms handmade from porcelain in sky blue and deep blue are mounted beside one another in this enigmatic composition. This is an imaginative interpretation of a still life. One in a series.
“Nature Morte ….is a still life which also echoes our Anthropocene era and which questions our relationship to the object and our impact as humans on our natural environment.” Marie-Ève Fréchette
Marie-Ève Fréchette acquired both a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree in visual arts at Laval University in Quebec. She studied ceramics in College and has another degree in Pharmacy. Before becoming a full-time artist she worked as a pharmacist for ten years. Her work is found in public collections in Canada and France. She has been an assistant sculptor to the renowned Quebec artist, Jean-Pierre Morin since 2013.

Passage VII - intricate, hand-shaped, porcelain clay wall relief
By Paula Murray
Located in Bloomfield, ON
In her Quebec studio, ceramic artist Paula Murray uses her own recipe for porcelain clay that she hand-shapes into beautiful and intricate pieces. Inspired by forms and patterns found in nature, Murray’s work often reflects the deeply spiritual connection between humans and the natural world.
The “Passage” series of vessels are boat-like in form. Murray does own a collection of canoes. “Transition and pods are other titles I used with this series- the idea of leaving one place - for another; the shell that held a life that is no longer of use...” Paula Murray
She has received many honours and international awards and was elected into the RCA in 2006. Murray’s work has been gifted by the Canadian government to dignitaries such as US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary Kofi Annan. Murray’s pieces can be found in private and public collections including the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Banff Centre, the Gardiner Museum, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Official Residence of the Prime Minister in Canada and Canada House...
