"Duet" by Mark Leichliter Abstract Sculpture 30 x 20 x 10" Powdercoated Steel on Stone Base signed and numbered 2/20 Shipping price includes the custom packing necessary for safe transport of fine art. ABOUT THE ARTIST: I was born in Loveland, Colorado and now reside in nearby Fort Collins. The natural beauty of this region was instrumental in my aesthetic development. The language of the land and its features has guided me toward sculpture as my means of artistic expression. I discovered my love of art in high school, having been exposed to advanced creative concepts through a self-developed independent study program. I grew up surrounded by construction tools and forms as my father, uncle, and grandfather built custom homes throughout Northern Colorado. This upbringing influenced my understanding of building and the value of craftsmanship. I spent a few years working for my dad's company, learning how to read blueprints and use the various tools of the trade. I eventually coupled my love of art and construction into sculpture by working for well-known sculptors in Loveland's bronze industry. I learned welding, metal finishing, mold-making and the enlargement of small models into monumental scale artworks. During this time, I also cast my own bronze sculpture and explored the subtractive sculpting methods of stone and wood carving. An injury caused me to turn to the computer and 3D modeling software which has enabled me to create an enormous variety of fabricated forms achievable in a vast assortment of materials. For the past twelve years, I have specialized in large-scale public works that include collaborations with architects, landscape architects, engineers, designers and a host of city planners and officials. These ‘team’ efforts have been the most rewarding of my career. I work toward a collaborative working model, allowing input from many sources to incorporate a multitude of means of producing artwork. The result is, hopefully, one wherein the line between artist, client, and audience is blurred and the sense of accomplishment is shared by all.

Night and Day: Cranes, 35"high mixed media sculpture
Located in Loveland, CO
"Night and Day, Cranes" by Chapel 35x10x10" 4/21 Mixed Media: Cast Bronze, Stainless Steel, Granite Base The base takes on more significance in this sculpture as an illusion of water, the imagery etched into the polished granite is a reflection of the cast bronze crane couple who rest on one leg while preening together. This particular piece is available from the estate of the artist. It is in excellent condition. This edition closed early due to the death of the artist, all molds have been destroyed. Shipping price includes the custom packing necessary for safe transport of fine art. Chapel, 1948-2021, Artist's Statement: “I was raised on the Western Slope of Colorado, with almost unfettered access to the American wilderness. I currently reside on a sailboat in Oakland, CA with my studio in nearby San Leandro. I work with permanent materials including bronze, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, glass and stone. It is my contention that a work of art must include a complete environment, not just a single object. In my opinion, it is very difficult to convey meaning with either pure abstraction, or pure representation. Describing an abstract concept with another abstraction does not define the subject. There is nothing in a completely non-objective artwork from the viewers experience upon which to base some meaning. One the other hand, a completely realistic presentation doesn't define an abstraction any better than a dictionary. This is why my sculpture is a blend - the symbolic joining of modern man with primitive experience. They are in-depth studies of the archetypes and symbols used to communicate their relevance to our everyday lives. Mythology, poetry and art are humanity's attempt to describe the mysteries of life which are beyond our ability to consciously comprehend. This is the appeal of the visual arts, poetry, literature and music; they excite an emotional response, or memory that transcends mere words.” - Ron Chapel...
