Artist Commentary:
This modular piece was designed to be configured together or in some exploded form. If in exploded form, the negative space then plays an integral part in the final appearance. An advantage to using exploded form is that the piece can cover a much larger space while still appearing as one cohesive piece. Comprehensive instructions would be provided for installation. If local, the artist is also available for hanging. The wood used is white ash.

Artist Biography:
Marty's aim is to take his woodworking experience and apply it to art. Typically, this will involve wood as his foundation as he explores its various properties either for visual, textural or constructive purposes. Other augmentation with materials, mediums or treatments will usually follow, all with the intended purpose of increasing accessibility for art-lovers.

Tazumal is a piece in a body of work exploring sound and the way that it inhabits space in the built environment. The pattern, repetition, and weaving represent the rhythm, texture, and syncopation of sound. This piece represents an envelope of sound, a finite piece of time, a controlled environment. It is heavily influenced by my time as a DJ and the practice of connecting patterns. It is about a controlled process – the merging of a creative practice with an understanding of materials and technique. In this object the marks of process are left bare, witness to the hand, craft, and labor. It is an homage to skilled work and the workers I learned from.
