About the Item
Charred Fir Head II continues Óscar Aldonza’s “Tizóns” series, marrying direct carving with the Japanese Yakisugi technique to explore themes of transformation, endurance, and the passage of time. Carved from a single block of reclaimed fir, this one-of-a-kind bust reveals a subtle, contemplative visage—softly defined eyes and lips emerging from the wood’s living grain. The surface is then subjected to controlled pyrolysis: lightly torched to carbonize the exterior before being sealed with natural linseed and tung oils.
The resulting Yakisugi finish produces a rich, velvety black patina that highlights the wood’s annual rings and fissures, underscoring the work’s dialogue between decay and preservation. Unlike typical patinas, the charred layer both protects against moisture and pests and deepens the sculpture’s visual depth. Cracks and textural contrasts—where raw wood meets carbonized surface—serve as metaphors for the human condition: vulnerability strengthened through life’s trials.
Ideal for both minimalist interiors and gallery settings, Charred Pine Head II can stand alone on a plinth or alongside its counterpart for a compelling diptych installation. The piece ships in a custom wooden crate (30 × 25 × 20 cm; packed weight 3 kg) with a certificate of authenticity. Collectors interested in the complete “Tizóns” series may inquire about acquisition packages and installation options.

Óscar Aldonza Torres (b. 1976, Santiago de Compostela) is a sculptor and Sculpture Professor at EASD Mestre Mateo. He holds a Diploma in Volume Techniques from EASD Mestre Mateo, a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and an MA in Art Heritage Management from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Winner of the 1st Prize at the XIV Open-Air Sculpture Symposium in O Grove and 1st Accésit of the Francisco Asorey International Sculpture Prize (Cambados), his work has been presented in venues such as the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, “Respostas sen preguntas” at Galería Sabor a Menta (Santiago de Compostela), and “Animalium” at the MIHL Museum (Lugo), among others. In his sculptural practice, Óscar Aldonza Torres positions the human figure as an intimate mirror, reflecting universal fears and inner doubts. His creative process—both impulsive and experimental—is underpinned by rigorous material research, allowing forms to emerge organically as each work evolves. Predominantly working in series, Aldonza Torres embraces ambivalence and conceptual openness, crafting open-ended narratives that invite viewers to engage emotionally—ranging from identification to repulsion and intrigue—and to complete the dialogue with their own perceptions.

Hybrid Architectural Figurative Bust in Black Cement. Anthropotectura “LarA 011”
By Jose Perozo
Located in FISTERRA, ES
“LarA 011” is a unique architectural sculpture from the Antropotectura series by Spanish artist José Perozo. Cast in black pigmented cement, this head-and-shoulders bust presents a fusion of the human figure with modular architectural volumes. The vertical extension of block-like forms emerges from the cranial area, transforming the head into a structural topography. This hybrid configuration invites reflection on the human body as both inhabited and inhabiting — a site of memory, construction, and symbolic permanence.
The formal arrangement of the sculpture is symmetrical but discontinuous, with geometric protrusions interrupting the organic contours of the face. These elements suggest urban formations, perhaps ruins or unfinished constructions, anchored to the surface of the skin. This layered structure evokes the aesthetic of posthuman figuration and resonates with speculative architectural languages often seen in anime environments — particularly those of Studio Ghibli or early cybernetic landscapes.
The matte black surface finish accentuates the raw tactility of the material. Subtle tonal variations, occasional air pockets, and manual traces from the casting process are preserved, underscoring the artist’s interest in the sculptural language of construction materials. These choices align with the conceptual underpinning of Antropotectura, a term coined by Perozo to describe his ongoing investigation into the convergence of embodiment and architecture.
