About the Item
This contemporary outdoor sculpture was hand forged in aluminum by Philippe Pallafray.
The provocative abstract sculptural work of Philippe Pallafray has found an international audience. The Quebec-based artist has developed a distinctive visual style that uses bold geometric forms in industrial materials and marries them with organic shapes.
This monumental piece is forged from aluminum. Two large round rust-coloured forms made up of hexagons and pentagons appear as spheres with triangular faces. Reminiscent of a ‘see- saw’ one sphere sits on the ground acting as an anchor for the thick metal beam that slices through the top of it and extends at an angle upward while the other sphere balances on the end of the beam.
“I am a self-taught artist inspired by the mastery of artisans and the creation of contemporary works. As such, I use industrial steel components that I shape, cut into sheets, fold, weld, and patinate. I use certain mobile components so my pieces offer change from different angles.” Philippe Pallafray
Philippe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada. Born in France, he emigrated to Canada several years ago and currently lives in Ile d’Orléans, Québec. Pallafray's sculptures have been exhibited in Canada and the United States both as part of group and solo exhibitions. They are also part of public and private collections in Canada, France, Hong Kong, South Korea, Sri Lanka and the United States.

Philippe Pallafray
Philippe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada. He worked for 15 years in fine arts in France before immigrating to Canada. In 2005, he established a studio on Île d'Orléans, Québec. Pallafray integrates polished stainless steel with natural and man-made materials to create provocative indoor and outdoor sculptures. His work is designed to represent the duality of nature and the industrial world.
“What is removed from the sculptures, the voluntary emptiness, recalls the ephemeral and fragile nature of life,” Pallafray has said.
Pallafray has exhibited in the U.S., France and Canada at the John B. Aird Gallery, the Artist Project Toronto, Alliance Française de Toronto and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. In 2016, he was artist-in-residence at Saint-Georges de Beauce, where he was commissioned to create the sculpture Aquagraphie. Pallafray’s work is held in private and public collections in North America and France.
