2017

About the Item

Sara Fine-Wilson's ”Poodle” is a gestural 9 x 7.5 x 5.5 inch ceramic sculpture in pale yellow and light green celadon with accents of warm tan, light pink and white. In this graceful and evocative sculpture individual slab elements are assembled, layered in glaze and soda fired. This process emphasizes the smooth fluid quality of the form. Fine-Wilson combines both raw and refined aesthetic qualities in her work by incorporating smooth, glossy, matte, rough and cracked surfaces. Sara Fine-Wilson is a contemporary sculptor based in the Boston area. In  her work she explores ideas about the emerging form of our subconscious mind. She also explores material, process and pushes boundaries. Fine-Wilson is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

"Spore", Contemporary, Gestural, Ceramic, Sculpture, White, Stoneware, 2009
By Sara Fine-Wilson
Located in Natick, MA
Sara Fine-Wilson's “Spore" is a gestural 17.5 x 9 x 7 inch ceramic sculpture in white and gray. It is hand built and wheel constructed in white stoneware. Individual hand formed details are layered over the entire surface creating a graceful and fluid form. The surface is coated in a cool white matte glaze that becomes darker gray and glossy along the points that have been caught during the soda firing process. Some of the points in this piece have been blunted and crusted over during the firing process. The glaze emphasizes the contrast between surfaces and edges. Fine Wilson’s ceramic work contains elements of both raw and refined surfaces including cracks, ruptures and pooling of glaze.
