Sara Fine-Wilsons “Tattered” is a gestural 17 x 8 x 9 inch ceramic sculpture in pale aqua, green, lavender, cream and gray. In this evocative sculpture individual slab elements are assembled, layered in glaze in areas while other areas are left bare to highlight the natural color of the clay in a reduced atmosphere. This piece has a relic like quality as glaze settles over areas of cracks and rough edges. Fine-Wilson combines both raw and refined aesthetic qualities in her work by incorporating smooth, glossy, matte, rough and cracked surfaces.
