About the Item
Folding in Motion 10 is a unique paper porcelain sculpture by contemporary artist Simcha Even-Chen, dimensions are 16 cm × 30 cm × 11 cm (6.3 × 11.8 × 4.3 in). The sculpture is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This sculpture is a part of the artist's most recent body of work, in which she uses paper porcelain—porcelain that has been given a 0.5% paper fiber addition for increased flexibility—to produce organic, dynamic, and natural shapes. The material's physical limits are tested (it collapses during firing), and the balance between the full and empty spaces produced by the shapes is experimented with. Although she assembles various components to create her sculptures, the final outcome after firing is always subject to surprise because of this collapsing process. This sculpture's use of colour is a key component that is likely to elicit an emotional or psychological response from the viewer. The surface's linear patterns direct the viewer's attention along the curves, emphasising the soft, light and fluid appearance.

Simcha Even-Chen
The abstract porcelain sculptures by Israeli artist Simcha Even-Chen explore themes of tension and balance, the opposition between chance and planning, stability and movement. The harmony of her sculptures is achieved through the combination of shapes, colours and geometric patterns. Her creative process is guided by a scientific approach based on her experience as a biologist. Simcha Even-Chen’s work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, art centres and biennales around the world. Her sculptures have joined international museum collections specialising in ceramics, as well as private collections. “My sculptures belong to the abstract art, they are autonomous objects that stand independent of narrative. As autonomous sculptures they challenge the viewer to flow their imagination and interpretation.”
