About the Item
A beautiful contemporary sculpture by Susan Woods. This artwork would be a great addition to any location and a wonderful decor for your home or commercial space.
The sculpture is a part of the artist's new series of works inspired by the Mesquite tree. This tree is common in Arizona, where the artist has moved her studio from the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn.
The gnarly, wiry physical character of this tree is quite special. Susan found inspiration in its twisted shape and dense wood. These steel sculptures echo the characteristics of their vivacious creator. Woods and her Mesquite trees are from the same elk - mysterious, venturous, inventive, and courageous of character. Survivors.
These wonderful works are made out of tubular steel. The artist cuts, slices, heats, twists, and forges them to create these unique works. Welding is barely a part of the process and is rarely used during the creation of the series. Although seemingly delicate they possess a monumental presence regardless of their physical size. Woods often forges a number of tubes together and threads them through to make open spaces, creating nuance.
