Tien Wen
Monumental by Tien Wen - Abstract resin and ceramic tray sculpture, pure form

2014

About the Item

Monumental is a unique resin and ceramic tray sculpture by contemporary artist Tien Wen, dimensions are 95 × 95 × 95 cm (37.4 × 37.4 × 37.4 in). The sculpture is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The idea of abstraction and the simplicity of shapes are central to Tien Wen's work. Two different materials make up the sculpture. The structure is made of resin and is a flawless white that contrasts with the tray in raku pottery that is positioned in the middle's black colour. Tien Wen's first significant artistic achievement is this piece. This piece is a representation of the ideal harmony of curves, lines, and contrasts. Tien Wen naturally concentrated her work on pottery at the end of the 1990s due to her early fascination with Chinese porcelains, particularly the colours, enamel and celadons. As the years went by, the artist's love of shapes and the material itself led her to abandon the functional aspect and create more abstract works. The artist just follows her instinct and makes pieces in accordance with the lines that come to mind, giving her a clear vision of the finished product, while looking for the purest of shapes.
