About the Item

"Casas Grandes Pottery" is a signed hand-built ceramic vessel with slip glaze created by Benito Morass. It features an abstract geometric design in black and red. 10" x 10" This original piece of pottery was hand-built out of red ceramic clay. A variety of abstract geometric designs cover the outside surface. Translated to English, the title is "Large Houses Pottery", which most likely refers to the Mexican group of potters of which Benito Morass belonged to. This group was well-known for their design innovation in their pottery, and the carefully created designs on this piece exemplify this. The Casas Grandes potters implemented ancient designs into their work, finding the history of the Casas Grandes site, built in 1130, to be a useful point of inspiration.
