Adda Bonfils (1883-1914), Playing Girl, designed c. 1920, made between 1966 and 1969, model number 1995, first choice. Porcelain with underglaze painting. 13.5 cm (height) x 9 cm (length) x 13 cm (depth). Marked and numbered under the base.

- Seriousness of the game -
The little girl bends down to the ground with one arm and makes a lunging motion with the other as if she is about to throw a ball. She looks straight ahead in concentration. And yet it remains unclear exactly what the child is doing. The fact that we are unable to resolve the movement makes our imitation all the more appealing and makes us pause to observe the childlike earnestness of the game.

Das kleine Mädchen bückt sich mit dem einen Arm bis zum Boden und vollführt mit dem anderen eine Ausholbewegung, als ob es eine Kugel werfen wollte. Dabei blickt es konzentriert geradeaus. Und doch bleibt offen, was das Kind genau tut. Gerade dass wir die Bewegung nicht aufzulösen vermögen, reizt unsere Imitation umso mehr und lässt uns bei der Betrachtung des beim Spiel an den Tag gelegten kindlichen Ernstes verharren.
