About the Item

Christian Thomsen (1860 Kolding - 1921 Copenhagen), Milkmaid with stool and milk jug, designed around 1910, executed between 1975 and 1979. Model number 899. First choice. Porcelain with underglaze painting. 28.5 cm (height) x 15 cm (width) x 9 cm (depth). Signed “Chr. Thomsen” on the back of the plinth, marked and numbered under the base. - in perfect condition - The dignity of the farmer's wife - Equipped with a stool and milk churn, the farmer's wife goes about her daily milking of the cows. The typical earth tones of Royal Copenhagen's underglaze painting emphasize the rusticity of the scene. The farmer's wife, like Constantin Meunier's peasants, is not weighed down by the burden of daily work, but radiates a dignity that is reflected in the glamorous appearance of the porcelain. The gap in the outer garment above the apron, which allows the fabric underneath to show through, is an artistic idea that further enlivens the figure. GERMAN VERSION Christian Thomsen (1860 Kolding - 1921 Kopenhagen), Milchmädchen mit Schemel und Milchkanne, Entwurf um 1910, Ausführung zwischen 1975 und 1979. Modellnummer 899. Erste Wahl.

20th century glazed Porcelain Fishermans Wife figurine
By Kai Nielsen, Bing & Grøndahl
Located in Brønshøj, DK
The Fishermans wife is one of he classical trades depicted in many Danish art forms. Often shown in realistic paintings while trading, the fisherman's wives where well known for their large vocabulary of less than flattering words, being loud but always with a sense of humor. This particular figurine is depicted in working clothes, resting her hand on the hip to take a bit of the weight of the heavy basket off of her back. She was designed by Kai Nielsen and given the model number 1702. The colors are vibrant and attention detail is high, making it a true Kai Nielsen. Bing & Grøndahl is one of the most famous and sought after Danish figurine...
