About the Item

Klinckhard's terracotta sculpture depicts an exact life-size replica of a pair of female hands. The left hand surrounds the right one and bends backwards, this move gives the whole sculpture the shape that makes it so interesting. ARTIST: Klinckhard was born in Berlin in 1922 and spent her childhood in Berlin and Düsseldorf. Due to political considerations, she emigrated with her parents in 1939 to the Netherlands. During the war years she was taught by sculptor Peter Starreveld and Gerrit Bolhuis. On their advice, she went in 1943 to the National Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam where she was, among other things taught by Professor Jan Bronner and Professor Peter Esser. Major themes in her works were 'infinity' 'freedom' and the Old and New Testaments. Horses and people - especially mother and child - were important sources of inspiration. Klinkckhard was extraordinarily prolific and versatile modeling and carving in plaster, sculpture in wood and stone, bronze statues, bronze medals in high and low relief and together matching two-piece medals. They exhibited several times during FIDEM international exhibitions, among others at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, The Singer Museum and the Museum Beelden aan Zee. Some tokens purchased by the Royal Penningkabinet Netherlands, the Money Museum in Utrecht and the National Museum in Copenhagen, the Münzkabinett of the Staatliche Museen Preussischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin and Muzeum Sztuki Medalierskiej in Wroclaw (Breslau). In 1975 she received an award from the Polish Ministry of Culture for its medal 25 years Liberation (1970), when penetrating a group of emaciated people breaking is shown for freedom. Her 10-year stay in a monastery near Antwerp resulted in a substantive level, involving meditation on the pebble floor (1996) makes the biggest impression. Regional Klinckhard was familiar with The Christmas group in the Obrechtkerk to Amsterdam (15-piece, from 1953 to 1956), The Way of the Cross in the church led by Min to Heaven Recorded Schilde Bergen and the bronze statue of Mary in the Holy Spirit Church in Amstelveen.
