Luigi Broggini (Cittiglio, 28 January 1908 - Milan, 27 January 1983) was an important Italian sculptor. One of the protagonists of the Italian figurative arts scene in the years between the Second World War, he is the author of the Agip logo, the famous six-legged dog, presented at the 1952 competition by his pupil Giuseppe Guzzi; the authorship of the work was definitively revealed by his son only after his death. He also published poetry collections. Educated at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he was a pupil of Adolfo Wildt, during 1930s he frequented liberal and cosmopolitan circles. During his Parisian exile he preferred to approach the works of Degas rather than the avant-garde. He also lived for a while in Switzerland. His first sculptures dating back to 1928 and his first exhibition showed a direction far removed from the official and traditional one. In fact, Broggini approached French Impressionism by elaborating a new concept of both the links between architecture and sculpture and plastic elements such as chiaroscuro and pictorial luminism. He was also influenced by Expressionism. In 1952 he created the six-legged dog used by Agip for the new fuel ‘Supercortemaggiore’ and later became the symbol of ENI. Under existing legislation, any artwork created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died can requires a license for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the license according to the destination of the artwork.
