Il bronzo raffigura un fantino e nel 1957 venne esposto alle personali dell'artista alla Strozzina di Firenze e alla Galleria Cocchini di Livorno. Esiste anche un disegno preparatorio di mano dell'artista. “Non è dominata da formalismi fini a sé stessi (M. VENTUROLI), “alcuni sono pezzi di elegante fattura, ma altri sono delle conquiste assolute (G. ETNA), “una scultrice interessante che raramente accade di visitare” (M. LANDI), “personalità completa, intimamente legata alla realtà del suo spirito ed alla forza della creazione” (R. MAZZARELLA), sono solo alcuni dei tanti commenti positivi che la scultrice Maria Chiaromonte (fino agli anni Quaranta anche con il doppio cognome Chiaromonte Fornari) ha riscosso nella sua breve (per quanto sappiamo) carriera. Di lei, infatti, pochissime sono le informazioni biografiche e per lo più legate alla sua attività artistica fra la fine degli anni Trenta e la metà degli anni Cinquanta del Novecento, quando viveva e abitava a Roma. La troviamo come un'assidua frequentatrice delle Quadriennali di Roma e delle Biennali di Venezia ma anche in ambito internazionale, Zurigo e Parigi, ricevendo importanti commissioni pubbliche e annoverando fra i suoi collezionisti membri dell’élite culturale e delle alte sfere del governo.
