This contemporary ceramic wall sculpture is composed of a figure surrounded by turtles and a wolf with fire, and blue droplets woven into a geometric web, similar to a modern-day dream catcher.
This sculpture was recently featured in Front Room Gallery's solo exhibition of Sascha Mallon's work, entitled "Flight Lessons" The exhibit featured Mallon's unique three-dimensional drawings. Utilizing an array of ceramic components, crochet, and wall paintings, the artist creates large installations that seamlessly adapt to various spaces.

Sascha Mallon
Sascha Mallon studied art therapy in Vienna and received her bachelor of arts from the University of Vienna. As a self-taught artist Sascha Mallon creates narratives using drawing, painting and ceramics. Her work has been exhibited in Austria, the USA and recently in Taiwan and Berlin. When not busy doing her art Sascha works as a Hospital Artist in Residence at a cancer center. She lives in a little house in Beacon with her daughter, her husband and her little dog. Sascha Mallon’s drawings are personal and metaphoric with a focus on love, pleasure, longing, reflections on body and passion. The source of her inspiration are daydreams mixed with reality, which she transforms into visual fairytales. Her works expand on her interest in life, the end of life and transitions. The narratives she creates are filled with strong memories and feelings as if they are visual poems full of meaning.

They refer to the border between inside and outside and represent stability and home. My mountain sculptures are formed out of broken pieces of glass and ceramics. This work started when I broke one of my favorite cups. The mountain represents the idea that when we face difficulties and challenges in life there are two possibilities: either we accept it and learn something, get stronger, and grow, or part of ourselves breaks and we carry the weight of the loss with us. This free standing glazed porcelain sculpture features multi-level coves in which various scenes are depicted. The bottom level of the 'mountain form' holds a dreamer figure with a hanging chrysallis above. The second, middle section holds a snake in a nest like form. The top level holds a resting deer. The overall mountain form is transfigured into the embodiment of a male figure, with a long cloak draped along the back. Pokorny's recent work explores literal and metaphorical attachments , in a call-and-response between people, places, and things. For Melissa Pokorny, found objects constitute the starting point for elaborate sculptures that have explored gender roles, the public and private spheres, and the nature/culture divide. More recently, her work engages the connection between “things” as potent containers of memory, capably representing loss and estrangement, and the deeply haunted landscape of the everyday. Unremarkable objects become activated and heightened as they are positioned within larger tableau.
