About the Item

Pair of Angels, Tuscan Sculptures with Cornucopias from the 1600s hand-carved from stone pine wood, lacquered and gilded from Central Italy, from a private villa in Siena; they are presented as upright figures, on a square plinth-shaped base, in good condition, with original finish and with missing and worn parts compatible with their four centuries of history. Lacking an arm and wings, they have retained their original characteristic and that is that somewhat naïve taste that is enhanced in the golden curls of their hair and especially in the expressions on their faces with their chubby seventeenth-century-style, Byzantine cheeks and expressionless, as if bored, gaze. It is assumed that the wings should be hung on their backs instead of embedded, as they lack interlocking marks or pin or nail holes. On the base is the symbol of the fraternity, a kind of Golgotha symbol drawn in white tempera. In the past, statues have been mounted as lamps. Period: 17th century. Each sculpture measures: Height: 70.5 cm x Width: 17 cm x Depth: 13 cm. To export an antique art object from Italy, an export license called BELLE ARTI must be applied for from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. the issuance of such a government license takes a couple of weeks or so, to be added to the order's shipping time.
