The seated boy has raised the flute and is also looking up, as if listening to the fading notes. This impression is emphasized by the slightly tilted head, so that when we look at the portrait, we think we can also hear the flute notes, which have a youthful lightness due to the musician.

Der sitzende Junge hat die Flöte erhoben und blickt dabei ebenfalls hoch, als ob er den entschwindenden Tönen nachlauschen würde. Dieser Eindruck wird zusätzlich durch den leicht schräg gehaltenen Kopf unterstrichen, so dass wir beim Betrachten des Bildnisses ebenfalls meinen, die Flötentöne zu vernehmen, die durch den Musikanten etwas jugendlich Leichtes haben.
