ZURA (Georgian-American, b. 1969)
DEMNA BABIES, 2024
Mixed media
H. 35 x W. 12 x D. 10 in. (89 x 30 x 25 cm)
Clear acrylic plexiglass included
Zura’s Demna Babies are edgy, mixed-media sculptures inspired by discarded doll faces. Blending street art attitude with high fashion edge, each figure is crafted with aluminum wire, burlap, and plaster, then hand-painted to evoke a raw, haunting elegance.
Central to Zura’s artistic vision is the human form, often intertwined with animal heads—a compelling exploration of the primal instincts within human nature. His work captivates with its raw emotion, symbolic depth, and refined execution. In the spring of 2022, he captivated audiences during an exhibition in Williamsburg, unveiling a striking new series of works.
Zura is a world-renowned artist celebrated for his powerful sculptures and paintings. His works grace public spaces across New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Connecticut, and are held in distinguished private collections, including that of American hedge fund manager Victor Niederhoffer.
Born in the Republic of Georgia, Zura spent 14 years developing his craft before formally studying at the State Academy of Fine Art. He now lives and works in Brooklyn, where his Williamsburg studio serves as both a creative sanctuary and a teaching space, where he shares his expertise through sculpting classes.
Zura remains deeply committed to his practice, guided by a philosophy rooted in beauty, love, and harmony.
