In Femme Fatale, Zura fuses the primal and the elegant: an alligator’s head—ancient, unblinking, and impervious—crowns a refined female body. The work plays with the archetype of the temptress, recasting it as a figure of agency rather than object. The smooth, resilient surface of the resin amplifies the sculpture’s tension: soft curve against armored jaw, grace set against survival instinct. Zura’s economy of line and upright, deliberate posture create a figure that is at once seductive and sovereign, confronting the viewer with the knowledge that desire and danger often share the same silhouette. ZURA (Georgian-American, b. 1969) Central to Zura’s artistic vision is the human form, often intertwined with animal heads—a compelling exploration of the primal instincts within human nature. His work captivates with its raw emotion, symbolic depth, and refined execution. In the spring of 2022, he captivated audiences during an exhibition in Williamsburg, unveiling a striking new series of works. Zura is a world-renowned artist celebrated for his powerful sculptures and paintings. His works grace public spaces across New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Connecticut, and are held in distinguished private collections, including that of American hedge fund manager Victor Niederhoffer. Born in the Republic of Georgia, Zura spent 14 years developing his craft before formally studying at the State Academy of Fine Art. He now lives and works in Brooklyn, where his Williamsburg studio serves as both a creative sanctuary and a teaching space, where he shares his expertise through sculpting classes. Zura remains deeply committed to his practice, guided by a philosophy rooted in beauty, love, and harmony.
