Zura
Life Size Female Torso

2023

About the Item

TWELVE CHAIRS GALLERY Zura – Life‑Size Female Figure (2023), Plaster Dimensions: 39 × 16 × 12 in │ 99 × 41 × 30 cm Medium: Hand-modeled plaster (also available in bronze) Signature: Hand-signed by the artist; unique edition with Certificate of Authenticity Zura’s female torso centers on the duality of strength and fragility. The absence of limbs or a head abstracts identity, focusing attention on the inherent power of the body itself. It’s a celebration of femininity’s resilience, as well as a meditation on bodily presence and absence. The textured surface—intentional and expressive—emphasizes process and imperfection. It conveys not just a depiction of form, but the artist’s direct engagement with material, memory, and gesture. Positioned unadorned on a pedestal with gallery lighting, this piece becomes a focal invitation—’come close, observe the textures, feel the presence.’ In a domestic or corporate interior, it serves as a contemplative anchor, combining classical homage with expressive modernity. Artist Overview: Central to Zura’s artistic vision is the human form, often intertwined with animal heads—a compelling exploration of the primal instincts within human nature. His work captivates with its raw emotion, symbolic depth, and refined execution. In the spring of 2022, he captivated audiences during an exhibition in Williamsburg, unveiling a striking new series of works. Zura is a world-renowned artist celebrated for his powerful sculptures and paintings. His works grace public spaces across New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Connecticut, and are held in distinguished private collections, including that of American hedge fund manager Victor Niederhoffer. Born in the Republic of Georgia, Zura spent 14 years developing his craft before formally studying at the State Academy of Fine Art. He now lives and works in Brooklyn, where his Williamsburg studio serves as both a creative sanctuary and a teaching space, where he shares his expertise through sculpting classes. Zura remains deeply committed to his practice, guided by a philosophy rooted in beauty, love, and harmony.
