About the Item

Inspired by Japanese film maestro Akira Kurosawa’s 1957 masterpiece—Throne of Blood, this beautiful pigeon sculpt with a volley of arrows pierced through his body is an allegorical reference to the film’s protagonist, General Washizu. The film transposes the plot of one of Shakespeare’s notable Macbeth, telling a story of a warrior who assassinates his local lord under the coercion of his ambitious wife. The sculpt is executed with meticulous attention to detail in line with Kurosawa’s sense of realism and perfectionism. His body a marbled blue, glistening in the light with a hint of gold. He stands with his right foot forward, bended at the knee with arms wide open as though surrendering to his inevitable doom. Paying homage to the ending of Throne of Blood— the1957 film by Kurosawa, this reimagined piece of art remains a landmark of visual strength till this day. Standing tall at 9.8” X 12” X 13”, this premium collectible is produced in highly detailed PVC, each individually hand painted to achieve a beautiful weathering effect. The figurine comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by James Jean. A premium bespoke box was designed for this exclusive item. Blind embossing is used on selected graphics, complimenting James Jean's original artwork that is printed beautifully on the thick cover. High quality foam safely protects the art piece inside. James Jean is an enigmatic figure. Trained as an illustrator, Jean acquired a cult following with his unique and meticulous style. In 2008, he surprised the world by leaving the realm of commercial illustration for the more structured world of fine art. He was born in Taiwan but was raised in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey. He was educated at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Upon graduating in 2001, he quickly became an acclaimed cover artist for DC Comics, garnering seven Eisner awards, three consecutive Harvey awards, two gold medals and a silver from the Society of Illustrators of LA, and a gold medal from the Society of Illustrators of NY. He has also contributed to many national and international publications. His clients include Time Magazine, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Spin, ESPN, Atlantic Records, Target, Playboy, Knopf, Prada among others. He has also illustrated covers for the comic book series Fables and The Umbrella Academy, for which he has won six Eisner Awards for Best Cover Artist.

Lucid Dreamer James Jean Resin Sculpture with mirrored base
By James Jean
Located in Draper, UT
For his first time-limited sculpture, James Jean sets a ghostly figure in perpetual freefall. First seen tumbling through flowers and clouds in an epic 2019 painting, the Descendent has become a prominent motif in James Jean’s explorations of time, space and fantasy. Falling forever, yet somehow serene, the figure represents ‘caught in between' feelings of all kinds – up and down, east and west, dream and reality. Descendent - Lucid Dreamer...
