About the Item

Questa statua in terracotta in eccellente stato conservativo considerata l'età e la fragilità del materiale, raffigura un putto nell'atto di soffiare, colto in una posa di intenso plasticismo. L'opera è totalmente cava all'interno, segno di una sua funzione come fontana. è direttamente ispirata dai modelli di Andrea del Verrocchio, maestro di Leonardo da Vinci, nello specifico il putto su globo databile al 1480 e conservato alla National Gallery di Washington ma la posa già si ritrovava nel putto con delfino della fontana di Palazzo Vecchio a Firenze antecedente di circa quindi anni. La fedeltà al soggetto rinascimentale, però non nasconde un'influenza di un gusto più tardo, come si nota nel panneggio dalle pieghe marcate, nelle forme più rotonde e paffute, in una maggior enfasi della posizione e delle guance gonfie, avvicinandolo quindi più alle composizioni barocche per questo si propone una datazione al seicento.
