About the Item

Stately pelican stands on a rock emerging from the water by British American artist Brian Arthur. Signed by artist under base with edition number: "Arthur 46/100." Dimensions, 9.5"H x 5"W x 5"D. Brian Arthur’s graceful bronzes capture the living art of the natural world. He creates sea life bronzes that bring the joyful activity of nature into the viewer’s environment. With their elegant simplicity of line and smooth rich patinas, Arthur’s sculptures capture the varied moods of the natural world. Each limited edition, signed and numbered sculpture receives a unique hand-fired patina with accents of polished bronze. This talented sculptor has decades of education and experience with three-dimensional art. Beginning as a young man at the Southport College of Arts, Arthur graduated in studies of sculpture and art history; he also studied at the Burslam School of Design. Both schools are located in Staffordshire, England. He then joined the prestigious Rawnsley Atelier in Chelsea London, where he worked on hand-thrown sculptures, ornamental designs and pottery at their locations in London and the Bahamas. When this studio opened a branch in the Bahamas, Brian was selected to assist other local craftsmen and artists produce sculpture and pottery which was shown in the gallery and viewed by collectors and visitors from around the world. He also pursued his study of form and structure at the Burstein School of Industrial Design. Brian spent several months in France and Italy working in a variety of media before he was invited to America by sculptor Felix DeWeldon, Brian gained valuable experience assisting this famous artist with the creation and installation of the Iwo Jima and Harry S. Truman monumental public commemorative bronze sculptures in Washington, D.C. For the next fifteen years he pursued his own fine art career, first in porcelain ceramics, then moving to cast bronzes. Now, he works almost exclusively in this most durable material. Arthur's bronze sculptures are cast using the lost wax process, polished, then patinaed in rich earth tones. Sometimes resembling fine veined marble, the patina on his bronzes beautifully enhances their composition. Brian Arthur works at his studios in the mountains of Southern California and in Devon, England. His art is now shown in galleries and fine art shops throughout the country.
